Yelverton firsts v Whimple

Yelverton are third in the table after a hard earned five wicket victory over Whimple on Saturday.

Whimple, batting first, seemed in control as their openers 76 without too much difficulty.  However, the dismissal of Chamberlaine for 41 precipitated the loss of another four wickets as they stuttered to 92-5.

The flight and guile of Yelverton's 'spin-twins', left armer Matt Tamsett (3-38) and skipper Rich West (3-34) proved too much for the Whimple middle order with only R Brown (20) and W Cleal (38) in a partnership of 52 for the seventh wicket making an impression.  Rob Bennett (3-40) returned to polish off the tail as Whimple were dismissed for 184.

In reply the Bohemian openers Will Chapman and Rob Bennett went to 65 without too much trouble but a mix-up saw Bennett run out for 40 and Chapman was joined by Colin Broughton and the pair added 49 for the second wicket before Chapman fell for 34 with score on 114.

Skipper West at four fell for a single to the spin of J Burden (3-46) before Geoff Brain complied a patient and composed innings, aided and abetted by Broughton (45) and Tamsett (10).

Brain finshed up undefeated on 44 as the victory target was passed for the loss of only five wickets. Yelverton (20pts) bt Whimple (6) by 5 wkts.

n This week Yelverton are away to Fenition, 2pm start.
