Carlsberg South Western League Cup Preliminary Round
Tavistock 1
Bodmin Town 2
The Lambs' hopes of cup glory will have to wait for another season as they went out in the early stages in a narrow defeat to much fancied Bodmin.
A weakened home side were put under the cosh in the first half and were lucky to go in at the interval on goalless terms with Luke Hodge guilty of missing two good chances, hitting the side netting when clean through and heading wide.
The Lambs had the better of the second half with Nathan Blamey's free kick seeing Ryan Draper fumble but recover in time to gather before Will Westlake could follow up with the rebound.
The turning point of the game came on 80 minutes as Paul Adcock turned just outside the area but was brought down before he could get his shot away. Leigh Underhay was cautioned when a red card would have been more appropriate. Nothing came from the resultant free kick and the Lambs' chance had gone.
Within five minutes the visitors broke the deadlock when Paul Madden went down the wing to send in a low cross that eluded everyone in the area and went across goal for Craig Swiggs to sweep home.
Andy Meeds brought off the save of the match a minute later but was helpless two minutes later as Bodmin got their second. Madden was again the provider to pull the ball back from the byline for Darren Gilbert to slot it home just inside the post.
The Lambs pulled one back into injury time but it was little more than consolation. Westlake's run into the area saw him go tumbling for Paul Smith to step up and crash the ball high into the net from the spot.
A not too disappointed Lambs as they more than held their own against a side packed with quality who are expected to lift honours this season.
