AFTER the winter lay-up, Weir Quay Sailing Club have been holding the first dinghy race of their 2000 Spring Series in cold, northerly force 2 to 3 winds with six boats competing.

The race was held over a long triangular course starting upriver from their River Tamar clubhouse then down to Cargreen on the Cornwall bank.

The fast handicap was won by Peter Carter in his Wayfarer 'Magis' in 44 minutes, followed home by Rob Brereton, also in a Wayfarer 'Popple' in 47 minutes, Alan Seward's National 12 in 53 minutes and Bob Townsend in Wayfarer 'Ruff 'n Tumble' in 60 minutes.

The slow handicap was won by Charles Brereton in a Topper in 46 minutes, followed by Ed Turner in a Mirror in 60 minutes, both on a reduced course.
