THE progress of work on Tavistock's new BMX park came under the spotlight during a meeting in the town last week.

Town mayor Cllr David Whitcomb, during the town council's properties committee meeting, asked Wayne Southall, the works superintendent, what was happening, as he felt the project appeared to have ground to a halt.

Cllr Whitcomb said: 'Yesterday morning there were workmen there, but by 11am they were gone, and today there were none. I am quite concerned because at the moment, it just looks like a dump — within the last 48 hours, nothing has happened.'

Mr Southall said work on the park, which is being created on the old pitch and putt area of the Meadows, was scheduled to take about three weeks.

He said he would make enquiries and report back to the council.
