A TAVISTOCK teenager is celebrating a brace of BMX successes with both the regional and national titles under his belt.
The last remaining rider of the disbanded West Devon Warriors, Andy Maddock races his beloved BMX bicycles in competitions across the globe, achieving a personal best of seventh in the world this year as well as holding down the top spot at South West and UK level.
Andy, who has been a BMX racer since the tender age of four, puts his success down to a lot of hard work as well as the tremendous support he has received from his parents over the years and encouragement from his sponsors Steve and Mandy Jenks at T n? J Racing.
He said: ?It can be hard to train when there are no facilities within 40 odd miles but I go as often as I can.
?Before I could drive my parents would take me to places as far away as Bournemouth and Slough two or three times a week, but we do have national standard tracks closer to home now, such as the one at Burnham-on-Sea.?
Andy also has another potential number one to add to his growing list of titles ? Olympic gold.
He said: ?BMX will be an Olympic event in 2008 and I have been asked to go to Leeds to take part in the Olympic training next year.
?It has taken a long time to get where I am but with hard work and persistance and a lot of help and support from my parents ? I've finally got here!?
