TIDY Tavi participants enjoyed a successful morning out litter-picking last Saturday (September 2) in lovely sunshine — and used the meeting to congratulate six-year-old volunteer Robin Reed on his new Blue Peter badge!

A good number of regulars and several families helped to clear the centre of town, as well as The Meadows and the A386 from the Woodtown Road to Bedford Square.

Robin (pictured), one of the youngsters who regularly participates, was pleased to win a Blue Peter green badge recently by sending in a well composed letter describing his experiences with Tidy Tavi.

In the letter Robin wrote: ‘I would like to get my green Blue Peter badge. I have been regularly going to Tidy Tavi on a Saturday morning. I wear a hi-vis vest and use a litter picker to collect rubbish around my home town of Tavistock. I put it in a binliner that Mummy and Daddy hold. It makes the area clean and tidy and nice for people to see. People say thank you to us for doing it. It’s good exercise and nice for the area. I walk around the river and through the park. I find food boxes, coffee cups, sweet wrappers, beer cans, cola bottles, and today a one pence piece!’

Next month’s gathering will mark Tidy Tavi’s sixth birthday, which will be celebrated in the Meadowlands Café at 10am with coffee and cake before the monthly litter-picking expedition. All previous helpers, as well as new volunteers, are welcome to come along.
