Okehampton Ladies 3

Plymouth Argyle Reserves 4

THIS was an important fixture, with next season?s fate hanging in the balance. Okehampton needed to get three points from the game.

They gave themselves the best possible start by scoring! Sarah Blowey netted Okehampton?s first after Michelle Vaughan?s pass found her roaming around the box. Blowey took control of the ball and beat the keeper easily to score.

Plymouth pulled one back before Okehampton took charge of the first half and got their second. The home side were awarded a free kick outside the area when Karen Fuell stepped up to take Plymouth on. She took it well and curled the ball past the goalkeeper.

Okehampton continued to dominate and it was not long before their third goal came, this time from Kelly Cooper.

The ladies repeatedly attacked and were only denied more goals by Plymouth?s keeper, who made some excellent saves.

After the break Okehampton?s evening deteriorated. Despite beginning the half brightly with some attacking play, it was Plymouth who played the better football and began to dictate.

They scored and Okehampton stuttered, losing control of the match, and allowing Plymouth to drag themselves back into it. They scored again and again and again, by the time the final whistle went Okehampton had lost.

The ladies must now wait and see whether they will stay up or not. With more teams coming into the Devon leagues they might be lucky, but like the last game of the season, it is beyond their control.
