Carlsberg South Western League
St Blazey 0
Tavistock 1
THE Lambs went to Blaise Park with a depleted side to take on the current champions and despite having James Cole, Nathan Blamey and Paul Adcock missing came away with a morale boosting victory, having had to play with ten men for the last half an hour.
It was an even first half with not too many chances. Craig Hodge headed wide from a Darren Parr corner. The home side's best effort was Glyn Hooper's shot that went wide from close range.
The second half was a different affair with Simon Parnell setting up John Hadjiyianni, but his shot lacked power to trouble the keeper. Hooper set up Graham Waters only to see his effort come back off the crossbar.
Paul Smith went close for the Lambs before they thought they had taken the lead on 57 minutes. Hodge's cross into the area saw Sean Cann get between defender and keeper to head into an unguarded goal but the referee said Cann had fouled the keeper.
With 30 minutes remaining it looked all over as Tavistock went down to ten men as Parr disputed a corner awarded to the home side and the referee sent him from the field of play for bad language.
St Blazey missed a couple of chances as first Steve Daly headed over from close range from a Hooper cross and Andy Meeds brought off the save of the match to deny Hooper.
These chances were to be St Blazey's downfall when with five minutes left Smith was fouled on the edge of the area and up stepped Will Westlake to send in a low drive on the damp surface. Keeper Ellis Glassup could only parry the ball and there was Hadjiyianni to send the loose ball screaming into the net.
It was an anxious five minutes plus four of injury time but the Lambs held out for an outstanding victory that sent them back to joint third in the league

Forthcoming fixtures — October is a rather inactive month for the Carlsberg squad with this weekend's visit to Penzance cancelled due to the home side's having players being on county duty.
The next scheduled game will be the Devon Premier Cup game at Langsford Park on Saturday October 25 against Newton Abbott. But the P&D side are in action this weekend with an away game against Civil Service Sport and Leisure at Beacon Down with a 2.30pm kick-off.
