TWO fire crews from West Devon were called to a house fire in The Green, Horrabridge last Thursday. One crew from Yelverton and two crews from Tavistock attended the fire which spread throughout two floors of a terraced building. The ground floor was severely damaged by the blaze, and the first floor was badly affected by smoke and heat. There was one male casualty who was taken to hospital by ambulance staff, while the adjoining properties were checked for fire spread and smoke travel. Firefighters used four sets of breathing apparatus, one hose reel and one main jet to tackle the blaze. The incident, which started around 1pm, was ongoing until 6pm. It is believed the fire was the result of someone in the house using tealights after a storm which had caused a power cut in the area. Tim Smith, station officer at Tavistock, warned residents to be ?incredibly careful? when using candles in the home.
