THE Bishop of Exeter will be the special guest of honour at a 30th birthday celebration being held in Tavistock next month. St Peter?s School was opened in 1976, with the official ceremony being performed by the then Bishop of Exeter. Staff and pupils past and present will be gathering at the school on July 3 for the present Bishop?s visit. He will go into the classrooms and take the opportunity to meet the children and answer questions. The school is also organising a reunion of past pupils and members of staff in celebration of the birthday. Hilary Johnson, school governor, said: ?Several children are now attending the same school as their parents, which makes some of us feel really old! There are actually quite a few past pupils who now have their children here. ?We have heard from pupils who have followed a variety of careers, including an advisor to 10 Downing Street, a high profile model, doctors, lawyers and members of the armed services ? we think 30 years is a good excuse for a get together!? Hilary said the school would love to hear from past pupils, staff and governors, who are all invited to share their memories and bring old photos to the celebrations at 2.30pm on Monday July 3. For more information, call Hilary on 01822 614791. l Football is the appropriate theme of the summer fete being held at St Peter?s School next Friday. It kicks off at 6pm, when everyone is invited to get into the soccer spirit and come dressed up in football kit to enjoy the traditional event which includes stalls, tombola, games and sideshows. There will be entertainment from St Rumon?s and St Peter?s country dancers, the barbecue and beer tent will be manned by volunteers from Tavistock Round Table Club and refreshments will be available. The school pool will be open throughout the evening, with qualified lifeguards on duty. Fair organisers this week paid a huge thank you to the individuals and local businesses who have supported the event so generously, including Mansbridge and Balment who have sponsored a great balloon release, Towls of Tavistock for donating a DVD player as first prize in the raffle and Michael Hooper Architects for sponsoring the raffle tickets, which are available from the school or on the night. And for soccer fans who may be worried about missing the World Cup ? any key game which clashes with the fair on Friday June 30 will be screened at the school.
