A SPECIAL commemorative portrait and congratulatory letter was sent by the Queen to the owners of Aalen House Nursing Home, in Okehampton, as they celebrated a year at the helm. Residents at the home and invited guests held a reception at the home to mark the Queen?s 80th birthday. The young Dewani brothers, of PSP Group Ltd, took on Aalen House last year, and have worked hard to refurbish the 32-bed registered nursing home for the elderly. Preyen, 28, and younger brother Shrien, 26, left their highly paid jobs in the City of London to join their father and move into the quality nursing and care home sector. Preyen paid tribute to the staff for the excellent standard of care they delivered: ?Jan Hazell, the manager, and her team of nurses and carers work tirelessly 24 hours a day to ensure that every resident is cared for. They are the ones who must be congratulated.? West Devon and Torridge MP Geoffrey Cox (pictured with Jan Hazell) and town mayor Cllr Frances Luxton were among a gathering of around 70 local dignitaries, healthcare professionals, business people as well as residents and their relatives at the reception. PSP Group has launched a new group called Friends of Aalen House. The aim is to involve the local community by organising events at the home and regular visiting sessions. In addition, volunteers are sought who could take residents out for a day trip. Anyone interested in joining this scheme should contact Margaret Stewart on 0870 286 1313. In particular, anyone with nursing or care experience is very welcome.
