AUDIENCES packed The Wharf in Tavistock at the weekend, to help local band Dad Dancing celebrate a decade of rocking around the Tamar Valley with a charity gig.

The event, attended by around 300 people, saw Dad Dancing give a performance supported by three other local bands — The New York Jazz Museum, Indigo Nights and The Advocates.

The evening raised around £700 for Children's Hospice South West.

Dad Dancing band member Graham Coiley said: 'We were celebrating ten years of the band and in those ten years we've played various local venues to support the community and charity events. We were absolutely delighted with the amount we raised.'

Dad Dancing — Steve Short, Mark Chaplin, Pete Rodgers, John Evans and Graham Coiley — started as a group of fathers with a common interest in music and from there have played numerous venues such as town and village halls and school proms.

Graham said: 'The evening was a roaring success and we raised lots of cash. We even had a mosh pit which was a first for us.

'Thank you to the Wharf for the raffle prize and Crebers for donating a hamper. Thanks also to our loyal and dedicated band of followers —who are mainly our wives and kids— and the wonderful, lively and dancing audience. Here's to the next ten years!'
