THE Lamerton Hunt Branch of the Pony Club celebrated its 50th Birthday Party with a Gala Show Jumping for all its members followed by a Scavenger Hunt and a picnic lunch with a special Birthday Cake made by one of the parents.
The Lamerton Pony Club was founded in 1954 at Leawood, Bridestowe by Colonel Calmady Hamlyn and was later followed by the formation of a Cornish branch.
During the early part of 1980 the two branches joined forces and became the Lamerton branch that exists today. It is a thriving club with 70 members catering for riders of all ages. It has a strong group of leading rein children as well as a contingent of competitive members at the higher end of the scale.
As well as being the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Lamerton Pony Club, it is also the 75th anniversary of the founding of The Pony Club which is the biggest equestrian youth organisation in the world and, with 40,000 members in the UK, it is the fourth biggest youth organisation in the country that is open to both boys and girls.
The Lamerton Pony Club emphasises the objectives of the Pony Club which are to encourage young people to ride and to learn to enjoy all kinds of sport connected with horses and riding. Also to promote the highest ideals of sportsmanship and to instruct members in the proper care of their horses and ponies with instruction in riding and horsemastership. The Lamerton Branch looks forward to continued success in achieving these ideals.
