Ten pieces of 'get fit' appliances are now in situ as part of a 'trim trail' which enables members of the public to circuit the area using the equipment for free.
During a meeting of the town council's properties committee last Tuesday, members congratulated works superintendent Wayne Southall and Cllr Chris Jenkins for their work in getting the circuit established.
The 'trim trail' includes a ski stepper, mini ski, pull down challenger, sit up bench, health walker, waist twister, leg stretch, power push, parallel rails and a push hand machine. They can be used by adults and teenaged children.
The equipment, with associated signage, safety matting and appropriate fencing, cost around £16,000.
Cllr Jenkins said he was 'really pleased' with the reaction the trim trail has received so far.
He said: 'I have been closely involved with this project for some months and I am delighted that the equipment is now ready for everyone to use.
'It will be particularly useful to many clubs and groups in the locality and an additional aid to anyone's fitness and stamina training.'
Tavistock mayor, Robin Pike, said: 'This equipment has been installed for the free use of residents, clubs and groups, and makes a complementary and fitting addition to the facilities in the Meadows.
'I hope it encourages more people to use this wonderful setting in the centre of our town.'
Used in conjunction with a jog around the Meadows' paths, the trail equipment can provide high-energy challenges, develop co-ordination skills, and allow exercise while having fun.
The 'trim trail' will be officially opened by Cllr Pike on Thursday, September 25 at 10.30am.
