THE atmosphere was distinctly nostalgic in Tavistock Town Hall recently, when it became the venue for a night of 30s and 40s music provided by the popular AJ?s Big Band.

The band has performed in the town hall before and the event was such a success it was decided to make the evening a dance night.

Tickets resembled old-style identity cards, menus for the buffet were printed as ration books, with culinary delights like corned beef hash on offer.

Guests entered dressed as spivs and land girls, dancing the night away to the music of Glen Miller and other classic artists.

Champagne was given to the winner of the authentic dress competition and enthusiastic dancers also took part in a jive competition.
