A FRENCH ?invasion? of Okehampton takes place this weekend, led by stallholders with armfuls of cheeses, olives, cider and garlic.
The Marché de France will be coming to Okehampton for the first time on Saturday, June 12, bringing a full scale, 27-stall French market to the town.
There will be a cheese lorry with an enormous selection of French cheeses from Normandy and many other regions. There will also be a charcuterie with sausages and salamis.
Other fare includes olives, Normandy cider, smoked ham, Pont l?évèque and Livarot cheeses, Calvados saucissons, paté Normand, sweets, honey, butter home-made biscuits and cakes, duck and goose products, cheesecakes and, of course, garlic!
Also displayed for cross-channel shoppers will be soap from Marseille, lavender, handbags, wallets, wooden toys, chic French sweaters, wooden roses, tablecloths and French house décor.
A stall will be set up by the town?s twinning association telling people more about Craon, Okehampton?s twin town.
The French Market?s visit to Okehampton follows a successful market held in Tavistock in April.
The market will be staged in Red Lion Yard and in Fore Street, It is scheduled to open at 9am and finish by 5pm each day.
