WHILE some may have been celebrating Charles Darwin's 200th anniversary this year, the ten churches in the Tavistock Methodist circuit have been celebrating the 200th anniversary of the circuit.

The circuit comprises the Methodist churches in Tavistock, Horrabridge, Mary Tavy, Peter Tavy, Princetown, Sydenham Damerel, Whitchurch, Yelverton and Zoar, together with the joint Methodist/URC church in Bere Alston.

The 'Celebrate 200' year started with a combined service at Tavistock Methodist Church followed be a circuit prayer meeting.

Throughout the year a variety of events, from cream teas and concerts to a flower festival and treasure hunt, will take place in the various churches, to which everyone is invited.

The next event will be a concert on May 9 at 7.30pm at Mary Tavy Methodist Church, using local talent.

On May 30 at 1.30pm there will be an hour-and-a-half circular walk from Sydenham Damerel Methodist Church, ending back at the church for cream teas.

The church will be open from noon for those bringing packed lunches and drinks will be provided.

A play is also being written by one of the circuit's local preachers and the year of celebration will end end on a high note in December with 'A Musical in a Day'written by a local composer.
