A WOMAN from Tavistock who received a letter in the post last week, asking her to take part in a scam involving the National Bank of Greece, is urging anyone else who receives one to 'rip it up'.

The typed letter to Brenda Carver in Redmoor Close came from someone calling themselves Stelious Basileios who said because she had the same name of someone, now deceased, with a dormant bank account of $8,500,000, she could help him retrieve it as he had all the relevant banking documents.

Mrs Carver told the Times: 'This is obviously a scam but I just wanted to warn people, especially the elderly, who receive such letters, that the best thing to do is just rip them up immediately.'
