IT has been another successful year for the ladies of Okehampton Golf Club, and has culminated with two of their members Kay King and Kath Mansell attending another county final, when they played an Exeter Golf and Country Club pairing in the final of the Devon County lady veterans knockout.

This delayed final, because of the weather, culminated in a nail biting final, with the match going to the 18th hole. Unfortunately for the Okehampton pair they lost on the last putt of the last hole. It has to be said that it was the Exeter pairs putting which won this hard fought battle, for when Kay or Kath looked in control of a hole the Exeter ladies would sink a very long putt.

This final was attended by the lady vets county captain Sylvia Caunter, a member of Okehampton Golf Club, who has had a successful year by leading her team to a victorious Inter County Lady Vets shield by beating Somerset 14 1/2 points to 12.

The ladies of the club played a qualifying medal on Wednesday and competition was keen as usual. Penny Deakin won the silver division with gross 82 net 70; second was Lin Atkinson gross 89 net 71 and third was Marcia Jones gross 92 net 77.

The bronze division was won by Amanda Winsor gross 96 net 73; second was Sally Griffin net 75 and third was Sylvia Caunter net 82.

Saturday was a fourball better ball and winning division one were Gareth Holt and Alan Mann who scored an excellent 48pts, closely followed by Evan Rees and Robin Webb with 47pts; third were Andy Shapland and Jim Butcher 43 pts.

Division two was a closely fought contest with the first three teams scoring 41pts. Rob Jones and Terry Steer won on countback from Fred Cooke and Phil Hawkins and third were Peter Okopski and Bob Barrett.

l A QUALIFYING medal was the format of the day for the men of Okehampton Golf Club.

Phil Hobbs won the division one with a gross 77 net 64; second was Barry Down gross 76 net 65 on the back nine from Keith Harkness gross 71 also net 65. Division two was won by Geoff Fidler gross 80 net 63; second was Andy Parry gross 85 net 66 and third was Bob Davies gross 83 net 67.

The third division was won with a magnificent round played by Rob Camies, he had a gross 86 net 61; second Steve Gregory gross 88 net 68, on countback from Dennis Jenkins gross 89 also net 68.

Celebrating Hallowe'en the ladies played a Gruesome Greensomes! Which was as gruesome as it sounds, with both players teeing off and the opposition choosing the ball to be played, which was obviously the worst shot of the two!

Winning this monstrous competition was Mo Huggins and Trisha Nilsson with 33 pts; second were Kay King and Kath Mansell with 29pts and third were Cherry James and Penny Deakin 26pts.
