A FARMER'S daughter from Petrockstowe has been shortlisted from 600,000 applicants for the 'Best Job in the World' run by Tourism Australia.
Twenty-two-year-old Beth Kelsey is one of 25 applicants battling it out for the job of 'Taste Master', promoting Western Australia as a food destination.
Her quirky 30-second video showing her recipe for the best candidate went down well with the judges and now Beth has to make a formal application complete with CV and references to try and make the final three.
The finalists will be flown out to Australia for an interview week after which a winner will be decided for the taste master 'food journalism' category and the five other jobs up for grabs — event organiser in New South Wales, outback adventurer in the Northern Territory, park ranger in Queensland, wildlife caretaker in South Australia and a lifestyle photographer in Melbourne.
The successful applicant will sign a six-month contract and earn £50,000 dollars over that period.
Beth said she heard about the Facebook competition through a friend and had always wanted to go to Australia: 'I am an avid traveller but never been to Australia.
'Food is also my passion and what I want to do as a career so this job is perfect for me.
'I have a farming background and my parents have a farm shop in Okehampton's Red Lion Yard.'
Beth's dissertation for her geography with business management degree was on the sustainable food consumer and she currently works as a marketing assistant for the 'Delicious North Devon' project to help the small artisan food producer.
With an international competition like this, Beth said she was amazed she had been shortlisted: 'I can't believe it really. This is a job of a lifetime and it would be such a wonderful experience, even if only short term, because I would meet so many new people and make new contacts from it.
Beth will know by mid May whether she has made the top three.
