North Okes U15s 17 Launceston U15s 12 PLAYED in balmy conditions at the Showfield the North Okes team played its best game of the season against a rugged and vocal Launceston team. Despite, for the second week running, completely dominating possession and territory a number of chances went begging to leave North Okes only one score up at half-time. With Okes? Chris Humphreys producing excellent lineout ball the home forwards pinned the opposition in their own 22 for long periods. From a lineout just outside the opposition 22 a catch and drive completely dismantled the Launceston defence and Peter Gillard scored near the posts. Eric Bright converted. After half-time the picture changed dramatically and a spilt kick off gave their opponents a chink of light. A good forward drive and poor tackling allowed their opponents to get into the game with a converted try. A sense of panic set in when Launceston scored a second from nowhere to take the lead, again due to poor tackling. From the restart the Launceston number eight broke clean through and appeared to be heading for the try line until an outstanding cover tackle from behind by Dan Curtis hauled him to the ground. This gave North Okes the break they needed and they immediately hit back with some driving forward play taking them into their opponents? half. A brilliant pass out of the tackle by Chris Humphreys to Chris Knott saw him beat the entire Launceston defence to score a superb try. Good tackling by Pete Vernon covering across and Simon Fellows wide out turned defence into attack and North Okes continued to play some excellent rugby. With Gary Down, Andy Evans and Chris Pyle now prominent driving around the fringes the Launceston defence often on the edge were pushed back. A long pass sent out by Will Searle saw Brennan Townsend put North Okes new boy Joe Taylor away on the left wing; Taylor was tackled just short of the line but Ollie Scantlebury came up in support, to pick up and cross the line for the best try of the game. l North Okes U15s train on Thursdays at 5.30pm at Okehampton Rugby FC.
