TAVISTOCK Athletic Club senior ladies rounded off their best ever season by taking individual and team titles in the Brooks Westward Cross Country League to cap a success-filled winter.
In Sunday's race at Redruth, Jo Meek finished second to complete a set of five top two results, beginning in November in Plymouth and becoming the fourth Tavistock lady to win the overall title. With the support of Heather Fell in second and the ever-present Caroline Steven, the Tavistock team leapfrogged close rivals Exeter Harriers to snatch the ladies' team prize. Caroline's move to join Tavistock has added consistent strength to the team this season and she was further rewarded with individual success with the 40-44 age-group title. Despite being sidelined by injury, Devon county 35-39 age-group champion Rebecca Deane had done enough in the previous five races to clinch a second place in the same category for the Westward League series.
This was just the culmination of an amazing run of results for the team members over the last five months, highlights of which are listed below: December: Devon County Championships, Exeter, senior ladies, 2, Jo Meek, 3, Heather Fell 10, Rebecca Deane (first female 35-39), county champion team TAC ladies; Cornwall County Championships, Newquay, 3, Caroline Steven (and first female 40-44).
