Bere Alston United 4
Wadebridge Town 0
BERE Alston returned to winning ways with this emphatic victory in a game full of chances and goalmouth incident for both sides.
Bere started as though they meant business with Marcus Pethick immediately getting at his full back and sending in a great cross that was narrowly missed at the far post by Mike Curtis.
Chris Bray and Jason Cordice both went close for Bere before they took the lead in the tenth minute when Nick Aplin crossed for Bray to apply a close range.
Bere continued in the ascendancy and could have increased their lead when Will Westlake saw his header flash past the post.
For the next 15 minutes, Bere seemed to lose their way and had to rely on Jack Dixon to make two superb saves to keep their lead intact.
Bere went 2-0 in front on the stroke of half time when another Pethick cross found it's way to Mike Curtis who evaded two tackles and rifled his shot into the top corner from the edge of the box.
In the second half Bere quickly added a third when Jason Cordice finished off a flowing move to score his first goal for the club.
Cordice was denied a second by the woodwork and then blazed over when well placed as Bere were playing some of their best football of the season to date.
Bere's fourth goal came courtesy of a penalty neatly despatched by Tom Hammond after Kevin Bowden had been fouled
With the game seemingly in the bag, Bere took their foot off the gas and allowed Wadebridge the chance to reduce the arrears but a combination of two further smart saves by Dixon and some glaring misses ensured that Bere were to keep a rare clean sheet.
The only blot on an otherwise impressive afternoon for Bere was a straight red card for young substitute Josh Midson-Holmes who received his marching orders for a rash challenge five minutes from time.
n Bere Alston are away to Biscovey on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.
