Duchy Div 1 Mevagissy 2 Bere Alston United 4 AFTER the mayhem of the cup match a strict referee was appointed. He was first class for an important league match for promotion. Bere started the better side and after Lee Underwood chased a lost cause, he put Bere in front. But Bere were still wasteful of chances and defended in strength for the final 20 minutes of the half. Bere came out all guns firing in the second half. They took the game to Mevagissy and showed the backbone that has been missing in some games of late. They tore into Mevagissy with Ben Rushall and Steve Daymond causing havoc as Mevagissy resorted to over the top tactics. The game opened up and went end to end. From a Ben Rushall centre Steve Daymond got onto a perfect centre to leave the keeper stranded to score. Mevagissy rallied and came back at Bere and reduced the lead to 2-1. Excellent goal keeping kept Bere in the game. From one piece of good keeping Bere swept upfield for Ben Rushall to centre and Rob Hawkins to beat the keeper to the ball and score. Mevagissy once again rallied and scored. Bere now went into overdrive and Mevagissy had a player sent off. Only their keeper, who was outstanding, kept the score sensible, until Mark Wheeler scored a penalty after a Mevagissy player lost control and didn?t foul one player but two. An excellent all round performance. Saturday home in Duchy Div 1 to Lanreath 4.30 kick off.
