Bere Alston 3 St Dennis 2 FOR the second time in as many weeks these two sides battled it out in another tight game. It was one of the few matches in the area to be played due to the adverse weather conditions with many a pitch waterlogged. In this match the majority of the chances fell to the home side, but it was not a game for the purist. The game started scrappily, and chances were limited in the first half. Blatchford and Wheeler went close in the opening exchanges for Bere Alston, but both sides cancelled each other out. The game was all square at half time. After a few choice words in the team talk, Bere did up their game. Wheeler's fine run into the box found Daymond, and his first time shot was saved by the keeper, but the predatory striker Chris Truscott was on hand to tap in the rebound. Within 20 minutes the visitors were back in it when Hawkes' speculative shot came off a Bere defender and just went over the line. Back came Bere and Daymond's free kick from the left was headed home from ten yards by Blatchford. From this point Bere did enjoy more possession, and started to create more chances. The game was wrapped up inside the last ten minutes as Westlake put in Daymond, who made no mistake from 12 yards. St Dennis did get a goal deep into injury time when Howells tipped a shot on to the bar, but the ball came back down to hit the keeper on the back and into the net. This was a great win for the home side, who had to battle it out for the points. l Saturday December 2, knock-out cup, Bere Alston v Callington, kick-off 2pm.
