Cup Final U18s Horsham

Athletic U18s 2

Tavistock

Thistles U18s 3

KIMBERLEY Stadium in glorious sunshine was the setting provided for the cup final.

Thistles had the best possible start and within four minutes Dale Mullen delivered the ball in to Lee Wickett to strike and convert. Mullen knocked in the second three minutes later.

An excellent defence made up of Phil Peers, Craig Groombridge, Ali Jowett, Dan Credicott and Wayne Downham made it difficult for Torpoint to penetrate the Tavistock half. Controlled play came from mid-fielders Steve Gibbings, Dale Mullen and Julian Bracey-Davis.

In the second half Torpoint stepped up a gear. A decision from the referee to give Torpoint a penalty switched pressure to Tavistock?s keeper Shaun Maloney, who answered with a great save.

Seb Krotke replaced Wayne Downham to provide fresh legs in mid-field. Torpoint fired back, making two goals within the next quarter of an hour, bringing the game level until ten minutes from the end.

Ben Stephens thrashed home goal number three ? Tavistock had set out to take the Horsham Cup and take it they did.

Jason Webber, Mike Bayliss, Ashley Woodrow, Luke Huxham and Darren Sambals never made it onto the pitch, but must be mentioned for their excellent play in previous games.

Thanks were expressed to parents, Glen and family from Olivia?s, sponsors for the season, Will Reed, manager, Mark Wickett, coach and Sherrel Reed, assistant manager for their time and efforts, but mostly to Thistles U18s for a fantastic achievement in their first season together.
