BELSTONE travelled westward into Cornwall for their annual tour, first over the Torpoint Ferry to Mount Edgecumbe on Saturday. The ground had a wonderful vista of the Tamar estuary on one side and the not so wonderful vista of Plymouth on the other.
After Belstone won the toss and elected to field first, Eddy Jones took advantage of the moist conditions to take the first 3 wickets with only 27 on the board.
Steady bowling throughout culminated in Ian Solomon's spell which finished the home side's innings.
With only 104 required Belstone took their time scoring slowly at only 2 an over to reach 51 for 5, before Eddy Jones quickened the pace with a contribution of 42 not out.
On Sunday Belstone moved deeper into Cornwall, to Constantine, playing Trengilly Wartha. Conditions were quite different from the previous day — misty and wet. Belstone were put in to bat and proceeded at 3 an over to reach 135 for 9 declared at tea, the highlight being an unbroken last wicket partnership of 30 — a new club record — between Ian Solomon (24 not out) and Fraser Willis (14 not out). Trengilly Wartha began strongly putting on 70 for the first wicket in only 12 overs. Eddy Jones and Ian Solomon then struck back with 5 quick wickets which reduced Trengilly to 78 for 5.
However another unbroken stand saw the home side to a convincing victory by 5 wickets.
This week it's cup action at Rew Meadow, as Belstone take on Sticklepath in the Buckley Cup tonight (Thursday) at 6.15pm, and on Sunday play a friendly against Teign Valley, also at home, beginning at 2.30pm.
