North Devon league division five
Belstone v Filleigh
BELSTONE completed their first North Devon League game for six weeks and by the end of a low-scoring match against visitors Filleigh had maintained their unbeaten record and place at the top of the division five table with a four wicket win.
Filleigh began steadily reaching 73 for three in the 21st over thanks largely to a run-a-minute 35 from John Ralph supported by 18 from Jack Wakeley.
However, all changed from then on as the next seven wickets fell for just 18 runs as Luke Wonnacott (4.1-1-5-3) and Thomas Boother (6-1-13-3) caused havoc among the lower order with five wickets between them off the last 11 balls of the innings.
Needing 92 for victory and 45 overs to get them Belstone's young team could afford to proceed cautiously. Opener Jimmy Ewen led the way taking 76 minutes over his 17.
Scott Tremain (13) and skipper Phil Woods (23) took the score to 63 but there was still time for Filleigh to stage a comeback as Tom Marsh took two for 11 in eight overs.
Corey Burns (12 not out) steadied Belstone nerves with only the eighth boundary of the match to see them home by four wickets.
Belstone (20pts) beat Filleigh (6pts) by four wickets.
