THE bells of St Eustachius Church, the parish church of Tavistock, rang out on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 23 to celebrate the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's son, the Prince of Cambridge.
A team of eight ringers was quickly assembled as soon as the news broke. All belong to the Tavistock Sunday service band, and can be heard on most Tuesday evenings practising their art.
The bells of St Peter's, Peter Tavy, were among the first in the country to ring in celebration. They heard the news at 8.30pm during their normal Monday evening practice and immediately dedicated their final peal of the evening to the new prince and his parents.
Both teams have recorded the event in their visitors' books.
