CADETS Tom Matthews, Nick Greensted and Rob Elliott, accompanied by Mrs Gill Moore, the director of Sailing at Kelly College attended the Combined Cadet Force Royal Naval Sections National Regatta, based in HMS Bristol at Portsmouth.

The Regatta was sailed in Bosun dinghies in the pairs competition whilst the singlehanders sailed in Picos. The event was dur to be held over two days.

The first days? sailing was held in freshening breezes, starting with a light Force 2 but finishing in a fresh Force 4.

The cadets were on the water for nearly eight hours, and coped superbly with the demanding conditions. Rob Elliott finished ninth in the Pico fleet, with Tom and Nick in 25th place overall by the end of the first day.

The Sunday morning dawned grey but with no wind at all. By 10am the decision was made to cancel further racing and the final results were calculated on the previous day?s results. The cadets were disappointed not to have the chance to improve their overall positions, but determined to go back next year and compete again.
