DRIVING rain failed to deter almost 250 people who set out from Sourton Tors on Monday to Beat the Bounds of Bridestowe and Sourton Common.
Those taking part, including several on horseback, were started on their trek by West Devon Borough councillor John Hockridge after prayers led by the Rev David Webber, vicar of Bridestowe and Sourton.
They walked, or rather 'squelched', through moorland of approximately seven miles, involving crossing Sandy Ford and climbing Kitty Tor, before ending in welcome sunshine near Nodden Gate.
Bridestowe and Sourton Commoners presented a certificate to each of the 239 participants and provided drinks and food at the start and finish of the event, which takes place every seven years.
