THE second charity golf day at Okehampton Golf Club organised by Bea Holman-Brooks has raised a magnificent £8,274.52 for her Especially for You Fund.

The fund raises money for CLIC Sargent, a cancer and leukaemia charity for children.

Bea was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in January 2009, and finished 28 months of gruelling treatment on Easter Sunday, including chemotherapy, lumbar punctures and taking other medicines.

She is now in full remission.

Twenty-six teams turned up to the club on July 8 to take part in the events.

Each team enjoyed light refreshments before teeing off, and then free beer and pasties at the ninth hole and a two course meal upon finishing the course.

Bea's mother Helen Holman said: 'All the teams had a great day of golf despite the occasional shower!

'In the evening, Bea told her story to everyone in the club house, before auctioning off a barrel of beer kindly donated by Teignworthy Brewery.

'CLIC Sargent has helped and supported us as a family and cared for Bea throughout her treatment for leukaemia.'

Bea and her family expressed thanks to Hazel from Barclays Bank for organising the bank's sponsorship and raffle, which raised over £800, all the local businesses who made donations and to everyone who supported the event.
