YOUNGSTERS and families in the Tavistock area are being invited to take part in a mile-long toddle for a Plymouth bereavement charity next month.

Jeremiah's Journey, a charity which supports grieving children and their families after a bereavement, is holding its annual 'Teddy Bear Toddle' on March 22, in Buckland Abbey's gardens.

Families can enjoy a gentle one-mile walk within the surroundings of the Abbey, while children can find the teddy bears around the trail to receive a goody bag. Picnics can be brought for after the toddle. The Ice Queen from Upon A Wish will be at the event, along with the Jeremiah mascot bear, encouraging the children and adults to join in with singing and dancing. Soperfect Images will be offering families the chance to have their photos taken either with Jeremiah or the Ice Queen, which can then be bought in the form of a fridge magnet or key ring.

Last year's event was deemed a great success with nearly 100 people taking part — the charity hopes to top that this year.

All funds raised will enable the charity to support children and their families who have experienced or are anticipating the death of someone special.

Sarah Nuttall Worsley, community fundraiser, said: 'It's a fun day for all the family to enjoy, from toddlers through to their grandparents.'

Jenna Bartlett, a mother who attended last year's event, said: 'The toddle was a wonderful event for all members of my family. It was a lovely way to raise awareness and funds for a great cause. My daughters thoroughly enjoyed the day and are looking forward to returning this year and seeing Jeremiah again.'

Tickets for the event, which starts at 11am with registration from 10am, are £3 per adult, £2 per child or £8 for a family of four (two adults, two children).
