I'VE twice received a potential new phone scam call that I believe readers should be aware of. The caller says they are calling from the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) regarding a number of complaints of nuisance cold sales calls in the area, They will then transfer you to a senior advisor who will then try to sell you a black box which you plug into the back of your phone and it will stop unwanted calls. The cost I was quoted on the first call was £1.09 to cover postage, and on the second call a one-off payment of £65. I asked how the box knows the call is an unwanted one, the answer was vague. I then asked for something in writing, this was not possible, to which I said this is a scam and the line was disconnected. Be warned. Bill Wheeler Bridestowe
