MUSIC echoed around the Charter Hall in Okehampton last week as four bands took to the stage for the last heat of the 2014 Okehampton Battle of the Bands. Okehampton-based The Copperfield Ensemble describe themselves as Neo-Victorian Steam Punk and came dressed as the part to perform with a string quartet, vocals and percussion for a performance where dark cabaret met theatre. A completely different genre was second on stage, with Launceston band the Separators playing their take on indie-rock. Plymouth-based hard rock band Pseudomorph thumped through their set mixing influences from Metallica, Alter Bridge and Iron Maiden. The final act was Okehampton singer Jordan Hookway who delivered an acoustic set to an appreciative audience merging covers with original material in confident style. While judges deliberated over the result of the heat, 2013 finalists DownFall took to the stage. Winning heat three and joining LGM One and Beacon Fire at the Party in the Park final in Simmons Park on August 2 were The Copperfield Ensemble. The judges also announced that the wildcard placement was so close, they had to have two acts, which were Pseudomorph and Okehampton band Faustus MD. The Party in the Park takes place at 6pm, with the first band on stage at 6.30pm. The headline act for this year is AC/DC tribute Livewire. Entry is free but donations are welcome. The 2014 Battle of the Bands committee expressed thanks to Stevens Estate Agents, Okehampton United Charity, Balsdons Vehicle Services and the Plymouth Inn for being the main sponsors, all the businesses and organisations in Okehampton that have given their support, and to the public who have really got behind the event.
