Devon seconds A

Barton seconds v Tavistock seconds

TAVISTOCK travelled to Torquay to meet a Barton side on top of their game at the top of the table.

Tavistock lost the toss and were put into bat, Tavistock were soon in trouble with Webber going for a long nought. Phil Stephens soon followed pulling a ball that kept low and was bowled, when his son Jamie followed him for a well constructed 17. Tavistock were 38 for 3 after 17 overs. Captain McGahey joined Gibbs to repair the damage and build a total. Although not always on the same wave length the pair punched the bad ball and ran some amazing singles.

Gibbs reached his maiden fifty for Tavistock first and then launched Liviesley straight into the housing estate before being bowled for a fine 6. McGahey continued taking Sheldon's only over for 16 including 2 cover drives for four and a massive six over mid-wicket pulled off the foot. He fell in the last over for 73 and Tavistock had a total they could only have dreamt of an hour ago.

This was one of the biggest totals at Barton so far this season and Barton would have to bat well.

They got off to a good start, going along at six an over but this was where Gliddon with the ball and McGahey with his hands stepped in.

Gliddon fooled Lievesley with his slower ball and McGahey ran from extra cover to mid off to take a diving catch to dismiss him. Perrett soon followed, caught and bowled to Gliddon.

Next man Hamilton seemed to be getting away from Tavistock until he smacked a full blooded square cut to McGahey who caught him at full strength for a magnificent catch,

This seemed to knock the stuffing out of Barton and tight spells from Jeffery and J A Stephens, put them well behind the clock and when McGahey took his third catch of the day a full length diving catch at cover to dismiss opposing captain Parker, Tavistock had a winning draw and a memorable day for the 46 year-old skipper rolling back the year.
