IT was hot and sunny, it was a Sunday, therefore it had to be another race day! This time the venue was Totnes for the annual 10k race. Seven Bats took part on what was a predominantly off-road race. The course started in the grounds of the leisure centre and gradually wound its way out to Dartington and along the banks of the River Dart. Along the way the runners had to encounter single file tracks across fields, ankle deep mud, tree roots and sizzling heat all which served to make the going very hard. Laurence Sargeant was the first male Bat home. First lady Bat and also first in her age group was Mary Sargeant. Dotty Allan surprised herself by achieving a course personal best and second in her age group, for all other Bats this was their first flight at Totnes and considering the conditions, all did extremely well and were all placed in the top four of their age groups.
