In the Okehampton and district table tennis league the leaders Tavistock A were held to a draw for the first time this season by Dartmoor Fringe thanks to another fine maximum by Barry Denner who kept his 100% record going. In an exciting and hard fought match six games were taken to a fourth leg decider. Ian Smith played well to beat Peter Hicks 11-7, 5-11, 10-12, 11-13. After the singles Tavistock A were 5-4 ahead with Fred Phillips and Peter Hicks losing the doubles for only the second time to Barry and Ian 11-4, 12-14, 5-11, 11-5, 9-11, to make the score 5-5. In the division one match Bridestowe were at home to Tavistock B who could only field two players and Bridestowe raced to a 6-1 lead. Mark Fowler won two singles for Tavistock and with partner Colin Brooker took Mark Fogerty and Phil Down all the way in the doubles - losing 14-12, 9-11, 11-7, 7- 11, 14-12 - Bridestowe winning 8-2. North Wyke were at home to Okehampton A where Barry Vaughan scored another fine maximum but had to work hard with Andy Stone losing 6-11, 13- 15,10-12. Tom Misselbrook took him to a fourth leg decider - 11-4, 9-11, 7-11, 12-14 - and Jill Dilley did well taking him to a fifth leg 4-11, 3-11, 12-10, 12-10, 4-11. In the last singles Andy Stone beat Tony Howick 13-11, 11-8, 5-11, 6-11, 11-6 to put the score 2-7 before Andy and Tom lost in the doubles to Barry and Frank Cockburn in four legs. Okehampton won 8-2. In division Two The J Team were at home to Okehampton West End, having beaten them 9-1 in their last match. Martin Rose , Brian Skilton and Trevor Drew fought all the way for a 5-5 draw but they could not stop Nick Jackson from scoring his eighth maximum of the season. Naomi Jackson did well to win two singles and in the doubles she and Nick took on Martin and Trevor who won over five legs 7-11, 8-11, 11-3, 11-6, 9-11, to level the match 5-5. Also in division two Moretonhampstead were at home to Okehampton B. Maureen Venton put Okehampton ahead in the first game beating Peter Denman 6-11, 11-4, 12-10, 6-11, 11-13. Dick Randell won against Richard Underhill to put Okehampton 2-0 up. David Shilston pulled one back against new player June Randell but Maureen won to put Okehampton 3-1 ahead. Moreton then pulled back and then led 4-3, until Maureen completed her maximum to level the score 4-4. Peter Denman then won his last singles against Dick Randell and joined David Shilston in the doubles beating Maureen and Dick for a 6-4 win for Moretonhampstead.
