OKEHAMPTON College has branched out to provide more than just the average lessons for its pupils and is banking on it being a major success. Gerry Bacon from NatWest bank and chairman of governors Ian Courtney, also of NatWest, have helped pupils of the college set up an in school bank as part of NatWest?s MoneySense for Schools Programme. The School Bank will be run by Year 8 pupils with ongoing support and guidance from NatWest. The pupils who successfully applied for the jobs have received cashier training from Nat West. All pupils at the college will have an opportunity to open a bank account and will be able to pay in money at the School bank. They will also receive regular bank statements, which NatWest staff will go through with them, to help them understand the process of running a bank account. Kate Richardson, a maths teacher from the college, added: ?The students are really excited about this venture. It?s very important that they gain basic money management and enterprise skills. We would like to thank Gerry, Ian and NatWest for helping make this happen.?
