The Gathering comprises Debby McClatchy (banjo, vocals and freestyle clogging), Tom Sauber (banjo, guitar, fiddle, vocals), Alice Gerrard (vocals, guitar) and Brad Leftwich (fiddle, vocals).
All four are steeped in the traditional music of this unique part of the USA. They offer you a rare and intimate glimpse of life, not only as it was, but in all its vitality as a living tradition.
Debby McClatchy has lived most of her life in the Appalachians and grew up with a strong sense of history and musical heritage.
She plays a huge variety of acoustic instruments, but is mainly recognised as one of the finest exponents of the banjo.
Her relaxed singing style is that of an artist who knows her music well and knows exactly how to present it.
Tom Sauber has long held a reputation as one of the most influential old-time musicians in the western US.
The virtuoso fiddler Brad Leftwich is known for the purity of his sound and his devotion to tradition.
Alice Gerrard is a talent of legendary status. In a career spanning some 40 years, she has played with many of the stars of old-time and bluegrass.
Together, their stunning vocal harmonies cover a range of emotion that can move you by turns to smiles, to dance or to tears.
