THE Hatherleigh Silver Band won the President's Challenge Cup at this year's Bugle contest.

The cup was presented to the band for achieving second place in their class at the contest, held every year in the small Cornish village.

But getting all the band's equipment to its various commitments is creating a headache for organisers who are appealing for the donation, or loan, of a medium sized trailer.

Band member Jim Reynolds said they would even welcome a trailer that had 'seen better days' as they were willing to renovate.

Running the band is a costly business, so a sponsored 'blow' is to be held next month. The band will play all over the town during August 11 from 10am to 10pm.

The band, which has a new president in the shape of retired bank manager Roger Brown, gets its summer season underway on Thursday August 2, with a concert in Winkleigh Square at 7.45pm.
