THREE members of Hatherleigh Silver Band have come home with wins from recent band contests. Trombone player Thomas Boother, eleven, from South Zeal, was judged to be the most promising player in his age group at the Bideford Solo Contest at Bideford College and cornet player Andrew Collier, 12, from Hatherleigh, gained a second prize at the competition. At the West of England Bandmens Festival in Bugle in Cornwall Greg Morgan from South Tawton, who also plays the cornet, was selected from 200 bandsmen as the best player in his section. Hatherleigh Silver Band will be playing at the bandstand on Ilfracombe seafront on Sunday (August 21) and Mortonhampstead Carnival next Thursday (August 25.)
