OKEHAMPTON?S ?Big Band? are bouncing back with a bang by making hay, not war. The band, from Okehampton College, have followed up the success of its first CD release, ?2 Fans and 1 Dog?, with their new album, referred to in the trade as the ?difficult? second album, ?Make Hay Not War.? Recorded live in concert, the album has been produced entirely ?in house.? The art department at the college created the CD sleeve and music technology students were responsible for recording the album. Paul Smith, head of music, produced the album in the college?s recording studio and said he was delighted with the end product. The Big Band is made up of students from year 7 right up to the sixth form, encompassing the whole spectrum of experience and abilities. They are already on their way to enjoying global experience, having performed in venues from Hatherleigh to Hong Kong. ?Make Hay Not War,? features twelve tracks including Feeling Good, Watermelon Man, Wipeout and Respect. It costs £5 and is available in shops in and around Okehampton including Donald?s Menswear and Mole Avon Town and Country Store. It is also available directly from the college. The Big Band?s next public performance will be at the Edwardian Evening when they will be playing at the Charter Hall. ?Make Hay Not War? and the first album, ?2 Fans and 1 Dog,? will both be on sale on the night.
