HATHERLEIGH Silver Band pulled out all the stops to scoop third prize in a band competition held at Weston-Super-Mare recently.
The band?s accomplished performance of Goff Richard?s Saddleworth Festival Overture secured them the Weston-Super-Mare cup in the competition, which was held on the seafront Winter Gardens complex.
Some of the younger members of the band also competed in the Bideford Solo and Quartet Competition held earlier this month.
In the nine and under class, Chelsie Piddington, Alex Doidge, Joshua Quick and Clare Reynolds did exceptionally well for their age. In the ten to 12-year age group, Carl Woodason came second, Mark Reynolds sixth and Andrew Collier seventh ? William Kivell also competed. Nigel Letheren played well in a strong 13-15 age group and Trevor John took part in the over 19 class.
Top accolades go to Andrew Collier and Mark Reynolds, who at just 12 years won the U17 duet class, bringing home the Printer?s Shield.
Hatherleigh Silver Band has a busy month coming up, with bookings for performances throughout July.
The month kicks off with a date at the New Inn, Sampford Courtenay on July 1, Hatherleigh Church Fete on July 3 and a Songs of Praise at Petrockstowe the following day. There are three more dates in Hatherleigh during July, plus appearances at North Tawton, Tavistock and Iddesleigh.
