FOLLOWING a successful swimming gala at Tavistock's Meadowlands Leisure Pool in December, several members of the ROC Welcome Club attended a ROC Active badminton taster session last Friday.
Participants have asked ROC to run weekly badminton sessions, which will now start on Friday February 11, from noon until 1.30pm every Friday at the Alexander Centre on Plymouth Road.
Neil Parsley, ROC Active manager, said: 'I hope this has encouraged people with learning and other disabilities to participate in the sporting activities that ROC are hoping to organise.
'I am very encouraged by the enthusiasm of all the participants, combined with the support they receive from their carers, staff and volunteers.'
ROC Active is a sport-enabling service which empowers people with a learning disability to participate in community leisure, fitness and sporting activities for their health and wellbeing. ROC Active plans to develop more community-based sports activities, including swimming and aerobics, depending on the demand for such sessions.
Neil Parsley of ROC Active would like to hear from anyone who already holds sports sessions or classes in Tavistock who would like to partner with ROC, to enable people with learning disabilities to take an active part in community sports. He can be contacted on 07977 413970.
If you know of anyone who wishes to participate in sporting activities in Tavistock, please contact Jane Anning by phone on 07595 271976 or email [email protected]">[email protected] or Neil Parsley on 07977 413970 or [email protected]">[email protected]
