BAT?S Badminton Club?s youth and experience recently took part in the annual Plymouth and District Badminton League?s Christmas Tournament. Three pairs entered from BAT?s: Julian Cooper and his mother, Heather; Alan Berry and Abi Maunder and Greg Amann and Rachael Williams. The tournament began with a round robin event in groups. As it was points that counted Julian and Heather were unfortunate not to go through to the main event after winning two out of three of their games. It was Abi?s first tournament and she played beyond her years partnering Alan to one victory and only dropping six points in the other games; unfortunately the pair were unable to go through to the main event. Greg and Rachael received a tough draw and though they played well in their group they were unable to make it through to the main event. With all three pairs now in the plate event concerns were expressed that they would have to play each other. In the end this was not the case with Greg and Rachael losing out in the quarter finals. Alan and Abi got one stage further to play in the semi-finals against a very experienced pair but all the fortune favoured the opposition when they lost narrowly 11-15, 13-15. Julian and Heather faired one better by reaching the final. Here they showed their experience and dominated the opposition winning the plate event 15-7, 15-6. In Division 4 of the Plymouth and District Badminton League BAT?s Badminton Club are enjoying looking at the latest league table where they are currently third only one point below University (B) and with a match in hand over them.
