THANK you to Jane Honey for reporting the town parking consultation day and thank you to the many people who visited.
Readers may be interested to know the background behind the consultation.
As the Tavistock Electoral Area County Councillor, I was tasked with looking into traffic management and parking issues in our area in the short, medium and long term. The plan will be placed in the Local Plan for Devon County Council, West Devon Borough Council and Tavistock Town Councils.
I realised that this could not be achieved on my own so a 'Task Group' was formed and invitees were:
l all the elected WDBC Tavistock Area Councillors
l selected members and officers of Tavistock Town Council
l DCC officers with all the complaints & comments from residents, disabled and the public
l The emergency services
l The chamber of commerce and latterly the BID
l Representatives from the Tavistock Townscape Heritage Partnership.
There were five meetings of the task group, not minuted, but action points were noted and worked on.
During the consultation day, visitors were able to look at photographs of existing road signs with suggestions given to either remove or improve the signs.
Plans to direct visitors into the big car parks where comprehensive 'four dimensional' information boards will be placed in the car parks. Commuters might choose to use the out of town parks with reduced rate season tickets. (now at 2006 tariff).
There are many residential areas where commuter parking is disruptive and suggestions for Double Yellow lines are being considered where safety is a concern.
It is also clear that these are areas well known to all tiers of local government. The purpose of this exercise has been for the task group to look at Tavistock as a whole.

Printed information is also available at the local library, the town council chamber and West Devon Borough Council office.
All West Devon Borough Councillors were informed by me and I informed all my local parish clerks in my areas of responsibility.
