Whitchurch v Brentor

WHITCHURCH'S Tamar side returned to winning ways in both the Evening League and the Saturday League.

On Tuesday evening Whitchurch played home to Brentor with the visiting team batting first. Brentor made a steady start with Whitchurch's bowlers containing and steadily eroding the top of their batting lineup.

The arrival at the crease of Martin Credicott saw a sharp increase in the tempo of the run rate as he returned Brentor's highest score of 33 not out. The leading Whitchurch bowler was Tom Ingram returning figures of 2 for 27 with Mills (1-9), Wood (1-6) and Bellamy (1-13) collecting a wicket a piece as Brentor closed on 85.

The Whitchurch innings got off to a good start as captain Mark Warwick produced a quick fire 37 runs before being bowled.

Despite this, the Brentor bowlers persevered with Credicott producing 3 for 12 and Downham 3 for 22 leaving Whitchurch facing a slight middle order collapse. However, Whittingham (14) and Ingram (10) steadied the tumble and allowed the home side to clinch the victory with 86 runs.

Whitchurch v Plympton

SATURDAY saw Whitchurch travel to Plympton. Batting first, Plympton posted a sizeable total of 176 for 4 with D Loynes (83), M Richards (37) and C Miles (21 not out) all impressing with the bat.

S Wood (3 for 28) was the pick of the Whitchurch bowlers while on debut, youngsters L Evans and B Richardson both produced excellent fielding performances. Evans in particular taking a steepling catch just inside the boundary.

Whitchurch again made an excellent start to their innings with a solid 32 runs from Folley. This was rapidly followed by captain M Warwick again producing the visitors' top score of 50.

Contributions came from Evans (18), an undefeated 18 from K Reeve and to clinch the victory, S Wood (20) produced two fours off the first two deliveries of the final over. Loynes completed a good day personally by claiming figures of 3 for 33. Result, Whitchurch won by 3 wickets.

This Saturday Milton Abbot provide the opposition when they visit Whitchurch.
