THE Ten Tors Concert Orchestra launches its autumn and winter series with a concert of Baroque Splendour at Fairplace Church, Okehampton on Saturday September 30, 7.30pm.

The entire programme is dedicated to some of the most beautiful music composed in early eighteenth century Italy, Germany and England.

The guest soloist is Early Music star soprano, Nicki Kennedy. She was a Royal College of Music scholar where she was awarded the Sir Keith Falkner prize for Bach and Handel and the century Prize for Early Music.

Her professional career has taken her throughout the world and this month she has been at the Festival di Bargo in Italy recording Vivaldi's opera Judita Triuphans with the Modo Antiquo opera ensemble.

Nicki will sing Vivaldi's passionate motel 'Nulla in mundo pax sincera' with the Ten Tors Concert Orchestra and Bach's magnificent Cantata Jauchzett Bott which also features the famous trumpet obligato.

'This will be the orchestra's third appearance in Okehampton and we are very excited to perform this all Baroque programme', said Ten Tors Artistic director, Simon Ible:

'It will be a very special concert as we have the wonderful opportunity to work with one of Europe's finest early music singers, Nicki Kennedy. Finding a gap in her busy schedule has not been easy. She has just about a week between recordings and performances in Italy to squeeze in this visit to Devon.'

The orchestra's principal trumpeter, David Shead, will be the soloist in Handel's Suite for Trumpet and Strings and Okehampton musician, John Holland will play Stanley's Organ Concerto in D major.

The orchestra, conducted by Simon Ible, will also perform the overture from The Chaplet by William Boyce, Albinoni's Sonata in G minor and Corelli's Concerto Grosso Op 6 no 4.

Tickets price £8 (under 16s £4) are available from Okehampton OK! Office, 19 James Street, Okehampton or telephone (01566) 783310.
