CHILDREN, parents and teachers really got into the spirit of times past at the Okehampton Primary School Tudor Fair last week by arriving in costume.

The two-day event was made all the more authentic by the Courteneye Household Living History Group who kick-started proceeding by firing a cannon and setting up a Tudor encampment complete with kitchen and armoury.

The Tudor theme extended into dancing and music and there were jugglers and jesters, apple bobbing and pony rides.

Headteacher Brian Cunningham said it was an extremely successful day.

'I was delighted by the efforts some parents had gone to to produce such marvellous costumes — we had falconers, executioners and a fabulous Henry VIII and Elizabeth I,' he said.

'We were blessed with good weather and a wonderful atmosphere and also raised in the region of £1,400 for school funds,' he said.
